Climbing RopesTypes of ropeDynamic ropes Roca Ropes that can stop a free fall in climbing or scrambling, and can reduce the impact force. Single ropesTo be used as a single rope.Double ropesTo be used as a double rope, using karabiners alternately.Details Choosing a climbing rope can be a little daunting with so much selection so hopefully by reading this we can simplify things. First, you need to decide wether you need a single or half ropes. Single ropes are usually thicker and easier to manage while climbing, but lack the versitilty of two ropes. 1/2 ropes are a lot thinner and so have to be used together but allow the climber to place protection and weave about a route without getting rope drag problems. 2 ropes often make absailing easier too once you've completed a climb. A rock climbing rope can be either a dry rope, or standard. The standard will still work in the rain of course, but its strength will be compromised slightly and it will get heavier. This is more of a problem when winter climbing as the rope can become very stiff. Dry treated rock climbing rope allows the rope to repell water better and subsequently maintain their normal properties. Sharp edge tested A rope's weak point is its resistance to an impact on a rough rock edge. Conventional ropes break when submitted to this type of fall. HARD CHOC technology passes this test: a fall on a piece of metal that has a 90° angle and a rounded edge with a radius of 1 mm. COMPLETE SHIELD The maximum level of protection of ropes with high water resistance and abrasion resistance used by Tendon. Using the new progressive method called NANOTECHNOLOGY, TEFLONŽ in form of very small particles is applied to the rope sheath as well as the rope core and forms an almost impermeable protective layer against water and dust that could damage the sheath or the core. COMPLETE SHIELD is a new impregnation which extends the general lifespan of TENDON ropes significantly. Tot Sec A system used by ROCA to guarantee that the ropes are water repellent. In this way, the ropes are able to withstand even several days of rain, snow or ice, without becoming saturated or frozen or increasing in weight. Long Life A system developed by ROCA, thanks to which the rope remains flexible and keeps its good handling properties, thus extending its useful life. UIAA Products marked with this symbol meet UIAA requirements. The UIAA is the International Mountaineering and Climbing Federation.
